New Version Toyota Camry Facelift

in Malaysia

· Automotive News

The facelifted eighth-generation Toyota Camry has just been released in Malaysia, providing the now three-year-old XV70 a much-needed makeover. The D-segment sedan gets a fresh look, a slew of new features, and, most importantly, the all-new engine and transmission combination for which it was built in the first place.

Engine

the new 2.5 liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine, which replaces the previous 2AR-FE. It's still naturally aspirated, but it has D-4S direct injection, electric variable valve timing (VVT-iE), and a revised cylinder head for better tumble flow; with a compression ratio of 13:1, it has a % thermal efficiency. Overall, the Camry now produces 209 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 253 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm, up 25 horsepower and 18 pound-feet over the previous model.

Exterior

The changes are minor, consisting primarily of a redesigned front fascia with a more defined center air intake section and black slats that run the length of the vehicle and are bookended by gray C-shaped frames. The 18-inch alloy wheels have a new design with a machined two-tone finish, as well as smoked internals for the LED taillights. Full LED headlights and front and rear fog lights are included, as before.

Interior

A new freestanding OEM infotainment touchscreen sits atop the dashboard, measuring nine inches wide (an inch larger than previously) and for the first time offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connection. The center air vents are pushed downwards, directly above the air-conditioning controls, as a result of this. The imitation wood trim is also black rather than brown, and the window switch surrounds are now matte gray rather than glossy, supposedly to decrease fingerprints.

Seat

The backseat passengers benefit the most, with power-reclining seats and a separate climate control zone (three zones in total). A new touch-sensitive control panel on the center armrest, which also holds twin pop-out cup holders, can be used to adjust these, as well as the motorized rear windscreen sunshade and even the music settings for the entire car.

Space

The manual side window blinds have been preserved, while the full-sized spare tyre in the boot has been replaced with a space saver; luggage capacity remains the same at 493 liters. The back seats cannot be folded  although there is a ski hatch for longer goods.
