Engine
The Golf R-1.4L Line's TSI engine (order books open today, we have a separate piece for it) produces 150 PS and 250 Nm, so the GTI has a huge 95 PS and 120 Nm advantage, making it a significant step up in the Golf performance ladder. Now that the R-Line has gone 8AT, it's also the only Golf with the faster DSG gearbox. The GTI sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds (the same as our Mk7.5 GTI) and tops out at 250 km/h.
Exterior & Chassis
The GTI comes with LED Plus headlights (without the red strip to match the grille, which is reserved for the higher-spec IQ). LED light bars that go all the way to the logo (not DRLs), LED tail lights, and 18-inch Richmond alloys (225/40 Bridgestone Potenza S005) are all included.
Interior
MacPherson struts in the front, multi link suspension in the back, a front differential lock, XDS electronic differential lock, and a sports suspension configuration that is 15 mm lower in ride height than the conventional Golf are all used to keep the car upright.
Dashboard
Inside the Mk8 Golf's cabin, you'll find a basic design. The lighting controls and cluster between the central AC vents are touch sensitive, and the steering buttons are similarly capacitive, so it's all quite modern and computerized.
Media Touchscreen
A 10-inch Discover Media touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, coupled to seven speakers, sits beside the 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. The single knob is for the wing mirrors, and even the "gear knob" is just a tiny protrusion on the slanting center console.
Accessories
Voice command, 3D navigation, keyless entry with push start, triple-zone auto air conditioning (includes rear vents with temp control and Air Care filter), an electronic parking brake with auto hold, tyre pressure loss indicator, ambient lighting (30 colors, five presets), auto-dimming rear-view mirror, heated wing mirrors, and automatic headlamps/wipers are also included in the standard equipment list. Safety
The GTI is equipped with the standard six airbags, ABS, and ESP. However, there is no driver assistance technology, and even fundamental features like automatic emergency braking (AEB) are missing. It's worth noting that Isofix points are also available on the front passenger seat, not only the back.
