Proton CEO Li Chunrong surprised everyone by announcing that the business will debut three whole new models within the next two years. This increased the speculation of the launching of X90. This huge SUV is also thought to be a rebadged model of the Geely Haoyue, since it has been spotted on local roads on multiple occasions.

However, according to deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah, the two-year term really spans 2023 and 2024, implying that any new model will come no later than next year. If it hadn't been for the Movement Control Order (MCO) last year, it was meant to be this year. It was meant to happen in Q3 of this year, but the timeline went on and on, and now our China friends (Geely) were also hit with a lockdown.

The worldwide semiconductor shortage has also had an influence on Proton delay on launching their new car model. Chip prices have skyrocketed due to high demand and limited supply, forcing the business to shut down its Tanjung Malim facility for two weeks.
