Perak government approves new roadway to bypass Menora Tunnel

· Industry Updates

The Perak State Government approved a plan to build a shortcut from Gopeng to Kuala Kangsar on the North-South Highway without passing through the Menora Tunnel, which is projected to lower the state's accident rate.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad stated that the state government supported the private sector project, which involved passing through the Gopeng exit to Siputeh and connecting to Kuala Kangsar over 64 kilometers and receiving cabinet permission.

The distance covered on the route is going to be a bit long, but the time required is short because it does not pass through any hills. Because the initiative is part of the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and does not use government funding, the state government fully supports it.

The company has had official approval since last April, and it will take two years to find investors and complete the land acquisition work. According to Saarani, the project is intended to minimize the number of accidents in the hotspot due to its flat topographical elements, lack of hills, and reduced congestion.
